Tree Of Hope
This sculpture, a collaborative piece by trail artist Sam Lock and 1,000 young people from Teignbridge, is a vibrant representation of their collective voices and aspirations. As part of the Teignmouth Recycled Art in the Landscape (TRAIL) initiative, the artwork captures the hopes, wishes, and pledges of the participants for a better and safer environment. These expressions conveyed through written words and illustrations, are inscribed on repurposed wood and ribbons, creating a powerful symbol of their commitment to environmental protection.
The creation of this sculpture was made possible with generous funding from the Newton Abbot Rotary Club and the National Lottery-funded T.I.M.E Community Group. The project also benefited immensely from the dedication and efforts of volunteers, whose time and energy were crucial to bringing this vision to life.
This initiative, supported by TRAIL in partnership with ACT, aimed to unite the community through a shared commitment to positive environmental action. The artwork was featured prominently in the ACT with the Arts Climate Festival, a celebration that used art as a medium to raise awareness about climate change. According to ACT chair Kate Benham, the festival provided a platform for the people of Teignbridge to learn about environmental issues and encouraged them to participate in creating a sustainable future. The sculpture, therefore, stands not only as an artistic achievement but also as a beacon of hope and a call to action for the community.
